Cycling and foot forward correlation

jnicoljnicol Posts: 8 Baller
Can all you avid cyclists and mountain bikers weigh in on this?

I have a theory that the foot forward you slalom with is also the foot you are most comfortable having forward when coasting on a bike.

So far this theory has proven true but the sample size is not large. Please confirm or refute the theory based on how you coast on your bike.

Thanks

I was asking some fellow bikers about this a while back and the response i got was front foot on ski =rear foot when coasting downhill on a mtb!

A few years ago, the forward foot on a bike didn't matter to me. Now, with bad knees, right being worse, I prefer my left foot forward. I ski LFF.

Huh I usually coast with one up and one down. Not aware of a preference for which is which.

RFF on ski and bike for me. I know 3 people for sure who LFF both or RFF both. Most road bikers I know ride one foot up and the other down....only my MTB friends ride level footed when coasting.

How about instead of coasting, preferred foot down for idling on a unicycle... RFF/RFF for me.
Is it time to ski, yet?

If I'm out of the saddle and coasting I'd prefer LFF. I'm a lff skier. Giggity

The fall forward test has been my marker, which foot you stop a forward fall is ski foot forward. Seems to correlate with a modest sample size.

This is one weird subject. I have never even thought of it before, But anyway I'm LFF, have ridden bikes forever, and you are right; LFF on the pedals. This way you have you power stroke ready to go within 1/2 stroke- right foot!

RFF on a ski, LFF on the bike. It doesn't seem to be a correlation.

I do think about skiing when I'm coasting on the road on the mountain bike. Like to do a hands free swerve on slight declines which forces a good counter into the turns.

LFF bike and ski. Countering on a bike is just like that on a ski. To turn right you start a slight counter to the left to initiate the right turn. Now if I could just translate that as efficiently on the water as it happens on the ground.

It seems like most of the responders in this thread are LFF. Hmmm, I'm RFF and I NEVER coast on a bike - I'm always pushing. LFF maybe correlates to slackers?
