Heater shirt recomendations

matt_bmatt_b Posts: 58 Baller
My wife informed me that my heater shirt is looking ratchet so I need a new one!! Nice. Any recommendation's? Good for water in the mid 60's and up. Looking at the O'neill Hyperfreak 05 mil and a Hyperflex 50-50. Hyperflex has a neoprene body and different material on the sleeves. Stokes looks nice but $150.00?

I have a Hyperfreak. Nice shirt and just finished 2nd season with no rips or tears. Perfski treated me right, great people!

How thick is the Hyperfreak that you have, the .5 or the 1.5 mm?

I have a Hyperfreak 0.5. I agree with @Andy - it fits me well, is effective and has no rips or tears. It was so good I bought a second one.

Camaro blacktec hands down. I had an O’Neil guru that I loved and finally wore out after 10 years. Got a blacktec from Robbie’s ski shop this fall and was amazed at just how warm it was.

    On sale for $99

    Sorry about the long link

@Bruce_Butterfield How long have you had the Camaro?

I got it this fall and probably have 20 sets on it. It is actually easier to get on than my old guru and no tears so far. I think the key to its warmth is that it lets in almost no water.

Mid 60's and up I say Camaro Modetec or nothing.

Which one is warmer blacktec or modtec? Any other differences? Are they a tight fit?
I purchased an eagle with taped seams, it was supposed to be the best but the size recommended was off and water flowed through it. I'm on the other side of the world so freight to get here and back is a killer. I want warm, form fitting and a bit of stretch to my shape

@GregHind BlackTec is definitely warmer, but for mid 60's and up I prefer the Modetec. Both fit like a second skin, but Modetec is thinner and less restrictive. But ... if I could only have one top, I would buy the BlackTec.

I would say the best scenario for Modetec is when it's warm enough that you don't really need a top, but chilly enough that you're just not going to take that second set without a top because you're a pussy. You put the Modetec on and then you don't think about the temperature. Does that make sense?

Should surprise no one that I am using the Stokes hot top and am really happy with it. Because of the zipper it is easy to get into and is still snug. Might be my favorite Stokes product.

+1 for O’Neill. I have a Gooru 2:1 (about 5 years, I don’t think they make it anymore), warm, durable, flexible. It’s the second one I’ve owned, the first one lasted 10 years. I finally did it in scuba diving in salt water, installing/removing docks etc. Call Performance, they can recommend the most similar current model. I would get the 1.5mm for the extra warmth, mobility will be fine.

That being said, my ski partner has a Camaro Blactec and loves it. He is super careful with it though because of durability concerns.

Eagle frontzip, best I’ve had. The O’Neill one I had fell apart. I have a hyper flex one that is ok, not as nice of material as the eagle.

Camao Blacktop top. Lightweight and warm. I've used mine 30-40 day's each of the last 3 seasons and it's still holding up well.

    @matt_b I have the 1.5 Hyperfreak.

Camero Blacktec 1.5 I've seen them for sale for around $100. Sure they might be fragile but if you know that going in then you'll be careful. I've had mine for two years. Be sure to get a snug fit

@skihard I took a look on Overton's website and there isn't a lot of info. The shirt is neoprene right? It says reversible, so same material inside as out?

@LeonL ,I bought one of the Overtons tops, the fit was really bad on the one I had. The sleeves were so tight I could hardly get them on and the body was loose enough for a 300 lb person. I sent it back.

@LeonL - mine is perfect and yes reversible both sides. Mine works great and a few of my ski buddies use them too.

Sizing is interesting. Looking at the chart it say's I should wear a long short. Called Robbie and she said a medium. Then I tried a neighbors and his XL was just a hair big if any. Felt really nice though.
