Diacom

jedgelljedgell Posts: 349 Baller
Anyone have a diacom system they’d be willing to rent out? I need one to diagnose a low power issue, thinking it might be a timing problem but the nearest shop with diacom is 5 hrs away. For a 2004 196 that’s been upgraded to ZO.

What makes you think you might have a timing problem?

Might make sense to tell people where you are. I have diacom, and if you are going to own an out of warranty boat then it is a tool yiu should own.
In general a timing issue should be causing random cylinder misfire errors.

If the engine has been converted from mefi to econtrol then yes the dizzy will need to be adjusted. Low power is a typical symptom of wrong cam retard settings.
Hobby Boats can be expensive when the hobbyist is limited on their own skill and expertise.

Sluggish hole shot and top speed of 41. That’s with a high altitude prop. Fuel pressure is good. Done all the regular things, plugs, distributer, plug wires, fcc filter, etc. Well known mechanics on this site have suggested that it could be the cam retard.

@Jody_Seal What are the proper cam retard settings for an econtrol Excalibur?
Success is failure that just hasn't happened yet

I was told 7 deg. That's for a 2004 with new ecm for ZO.

    Question:
What should the top speed for a 2013 Malibu TXI? It has a new 5.7 Monsoon.
I am only getting 41-42mph with just a couple people in boat.
I bought this boat last year from a dealer with full warranty from Jasper on a brand new motor. (Dealer said the previous owner had oil filter double gasketed and came off and they kept going until it blew)
Hole shot seems good, motor sounds like it is running smooth, but feel top end should be at least 43-44?

Any experts out there that can verify this?
