The SS. Guys I think it is for real. I keep getting asked how it compares to the old Red&Blue  Sixam and I just do not know because I have not ridden the old one in over a year. Do I think it is as good . .  yea & maybe better. I think so. Is it the same? I do not know. I can say that the ski is WAY better then the 06 Grey/Blue Sixam.

I do know that other skiers have struggled with the ski right out of the box. I think this is all about the fin #s.

My #s are below. Depth is real touchy. Length and DFT are roughly my #s from my grey and blue Sixam and seem to work well.

30 1/16 front

17 13/16 rear

2.490 Depth (at 2.505 I had a lot of tip rise on both sides)

6.940 Tips

.778 Head of Mic

    Note:

I have Drew's #s but do not know how he gets DFT or lenght so they do not help much. I do know that his depth is more like 2.515. For me this setting is way off the map.

I saw it in April along with seeing Drew ski 41 on the new SS. They're working on some new binding R&D too! They seem very serious about putting out good product.

I'm spending the week down at Trophy Lakes...Seth just got his shipment in today of the new SS.

First comment - "like the color scheme"

Asked him to evaluate the new fin clamp on the spot...he said, "this is the first time I've looked at it, but it appears to be a bit more normal...something like what the rest of the world is using."

A guy standing next to me who had just to been to Drew Ross's school said Drew said earlier in the year that they weren't going to touch the clamp - maybe it was a last minute change?

I got to ride a second SS this weekend. I am very impressed with the fit and finish. I am all about the little things like inserts & clean top edges. Both of the SSs that I have ridden this year have had a finish quality that I have not seen from O’Brien in years.

The two skis come from different batches but ski alike. This suggests the press operators have it dialed in.

All and all I think that O’Brien may have recaptured the magic of the original Sixam.

Yea the green is funky but I am skiing really well on it  . . . .

    Ward,

I know that you have the new O'Brien fin clamp in hand. Will you please tell the guys that it is real.

Rode the SS last night, very very fast, Definately head and shoulders better than the previous 1point. (not yet sure how it compares to the original Red and Blue, if i had to guess, I would say as good.)

Good enough to dish the F1?
  • skidawgskidawg Posts: 3,211 Open or 55K Rated Skier
The jury is out, but it would be hard to drop the F1, my new one RIPS. If someone is looking for a new fast ride the ss is definately in the hunt.

There  were a couple of them on the dock here in Minn at a C last weekend. They are all happy with the ski. None of them had the new (PHANTOM) fin block that I have been hearing about.

I think the SS is the best obrien since the original red and blue sixam.  It is a really sweet ride!  They did make a huge step in the evolutionary process by 86ing the old fin block also.  If you like the red and blue, you should try this.  Otherwise buy something blue.

    Or buy somthing Red.

What I like about the SS is that it is fast and turns like hell but also has no surprises. It is easy to ride and does what you ask it. High performace and predictable (unlike a red & black ski that tweaked my ankle 3 times).
