I said Sammy, but I think Wayne did jump 180. Probably him.

I think Mondor went like 187 or so and held the record briefly in the late very 70's (78/79)

Love the history @Edbrazil. Thanks! Mid-'70s is when I was just getting into competitive skiing as a teen. Good times. Keep the history coming. We should have a "History of Competitive Water Skiing" thread with lots of stories and pics.

So here's a question for Ed (or anyone else): What's the farthest anyone ever went on wood jumpers? If I'm not mistaken, Mike Suyderhoud went 165' on Western Wood planks with formica bottoms sometime around 1970.

Wayne definately. Have heard plenty of stories in years gone by
from Bruce about his & Waynes travels together.
Both chased the mark back then, Wayne always coming out 1 up.
Apparently "Monopoly" was a different thing.

Had a great Wayne Grimditch Slalom poster when I was young.

On either a Orange or Blue EP.

Had both posters. My brothers and I still have the WG trickskis from EP that we mowed lawns to buy. Bindings are shot, but they're still a ton of fun.

Grimditch is a sweet name for an extreme athlete. It would also work for a death metal band.

Grimditch-180, then Mondor-187 , then Thurlow- 202, I think? Grimditch also won the worlds best athlete soon after he retired from skiing. He ran an amazing 800 meter in that progression of events.

@Edbrazil You are a crazy encyclopedia of waters skiing.

I did not think anyone outside my family knew that Wayne broke the record at our lake - we always assumed it was not made official because he went on to go 180 soon after. I was pretty small so I do not remember but Wayne skied there the summer leading up to breaking the record. It was a pretty big time for my older brothers.
