45 degree water

GOODESkierGOODESkier Posts: 1,107 Crazy Baller
My 5 year old braved the 45 degree Columbia River in a little wet suit today for his first set of 2015! I am proud of this rugged little guy! I didn't even get out of a dry suit all of last summer on the Columbia!

That is awesome. Kids are tough. When my son was young he skied in 50* water in a heater top. It was all I had for him.

Tough kid. Probably got it from his dad? The water is now over 50 degrees down here in PDX. We usually drop the drysuit around the end of May as the water gets around 70. The River agreement is to keep the temp below 70 for the fish but it is not unusual for it to reach 72-73.

@15boi how do they regulate the temp?

@GOODESkier the army corp of engineers works with the states, Indian tribes, etc. to control water flow/releases at the various dams based off fish migration/runs. The release of water downriver by us will lower the water temps. This is done over 1000 miles of river in multiple states and two countries. The water temp can be 20-30 degrees difference from us here in PDX vs in Canada.

I'm sure there is much better info out there but that is the way I understand it.

Still waiting to try ZO on the river. Soon...
