Cleaning The Bottom of a New Ski

scuppersscuppers Posts: 451 Baller
When you ballers get a new ski how thoroughly do you scrub the bottom to remove the mold release? What do you use, sponge , scrubbie pad, etc?

    Dish soap and sponge when new and every now and then. When a ski has a sprayed bottom either from factory or a refinish I use dish soap and green sponge lightly from top to bottom. Very lightly!

    Sorry for the ignorance, but what are you guys talking about? Mold release? What is that?

    After a ski is "cooked" in the mold at the factory, there is residual chemicals on the ski from the molding process. Cleaning removes these from the surface of the ski. You would think, most companies so this following manufacturing?

    Guess all I've ever done is a little goo gone to get rid of the residue from the stickers that they insist on sticking to the bottom.

    how Rossi does it...rubbing alcohol....

  • skialexskialex Posts: 1,007 Crazy Baller
    I wouldn't use rubbing alcohol on a Goode. It will hurt the ski. You definitely don't want a $2000 ski with blemishes.
    I guess it works on other brands.

    How would rubbing alcohol hurt a Goode? My understanding was they used bumper paint in the past...no idea now....you have piqued my interest.

    The pre 9800 and the post XT ski's bottom is sprayed in full. In the in between models only the rear, the sides and the top are sprayed.
    Anyway if you rub the painted parts with alcohol they get discolored.
    Most other brands have a vinil finish and you probably can rub them with alcohol and a cloth.
    I would personally go with dish soap for a more gentl clean.

    @MS $1940 + $50 shipping + $10 pop wine = $2000!

    I am sure it will be 2500 pretty soon. The good thing is that the N1 is now only 1400.
