Tight Steering

This summer my 1996 Ski Nautique's steering has been extremely tight. Does anyone know how I can fix this?

    New steering cable? Normal maintenence...

My old MasterCraft steering tightened up like that. Cable replacement was the answer. Do a little troubleshooting to rule out rudder or column issues, but I'm betting on the cable (especially if it is original).

My 97 has a grease fitting on the rudder box itself. Couple squirts with a grease gun and done.

Disconnect cable from rudder, check how hard it is to turn. If still hard then cable, rack or tilt unit. If easy then rudder box.

Check the steering cable near rudder. Ours had some build up and once we cleaned that off, the steering was great again.

@Nautique96: One trick on the cable if it is stiff: remove at tiller & tilt cable up, pop off the rubber seal, slowly pour some ATF down the cable and articulate left to right along the process. Might free it up for you.
