Is it safe to say that the vast majority of skiers were on Goode's. I saw one on the Obrien Synchro. That one was interesting, to say the least. Surprised to see no Mpd's. Or even Obrien Sixam SS'. Looks as if Goode has a monopoly on the 34 mph division.

Why do you think that is? Marketing, distribution, group think, better quality, coincidence?

I find that many of the tournament skiers in my area like Goode as well...I always attributed it to just being a regional preference, but maybe I shouldn't?

There were certainly more Goode's than any other brand but they only represented 50% of the skis in the top 16 - hardly a vast majority. Here's what the top 16 rode:

    Goode 9800SL - 1

    Goode 9800 - 3

    Goode 9700 - 2

    Goode 9500 - 1

    Goode 9100 - 1

    D3 X5 - 1

    Sixam SS - 1

    O'Brien Synchro - 1

    HO Monza - 4

    Fischer Yellow - 1

Actually, one could make the argument that the HO Monza was the most popular brand/model in this event.

Butterfield put up a 39 on the monza, but I stunk the place out with mine. Go figure. It is the skiers and not the skis.

Also, there were several skiers in the "L" event riding the Radar.

I have been keeping my eye out for what skis are popular. I enjoyed Horton's pics in that I was able to get a good idea of what the majority of the top skiers were riding. I don't really think we can go by what the open class pros are riding because, in my opinion, most are riding prototypes. I mean, did you see all the skis in Andy's shop in his video? He definitely wasn't skiing on a ski right out of the box. With Goode coming out with the high dollar warranty, that scared me away from buying a Goode. I have never had any trouble with HO products. I am at this point leaning towards a Radar. Funny, though I have sold all of my skis with a D3 Custom4 being the last one. I jumped on a 25 year old Jobe with the new Approach boot and ran 5 complete passes better. Must've been the boot. Right? I am going to have to send this forum a pic of this monster ski. Also, man, the fin must be 7.5 inches long with hexgon shaped openings for the holes. Laugh out loud! Enough of my rambling!

At the Bayou Big Dawg I do not think any one was really on specail skis. Chad is on the program with Dave Goode but I do not think his ski is that differnet from what you can get. Besides that I think everyone else is on stock skis. Some top pros may be on custom skis but for the rest of us I think that might be more trouble then it is worth. I have a slightly out of spec SS that I love and an MPD that is freakin awesome.

It is more trouble. You will go through a 100 skis before you will find a back up ski identical. But the flex machine should assist in this, but yes is probably still more trouble. Mr. Horton, you are riding two skis that have my eye on. I am leaning towards a Radar, but am interested in the "green" ski. What do you not like about the green ski? Does it not ski out wide and early or something else? What are your favorite attributes of the MPD. I believe you will find it interesting, but you may know this, but I have heard that Andy has been riding the Radar Senate exclusively for 34 mph. But, that is 3rd person. I have yet to see a Senate, but have heard it is more like a tunnel concave.

From speaking to Trent F and Thomas M, they are both on out of the box radars. They may have skied a few before setteling in on one, but they were off the shelf. I do not believe that the factory in China can produce proto types for any skier. I think Andy skis on all of the molds and then makes a final product with what he feels is a quality ski. You will always run into flex and differances like that, but the rocker and bevels will be what the mold produces.
  • HortonHorton Posts: 29,537 Administrator

truth is flex and rocker can change from ski to ski - depending how the ski is layed up and cooked.

These skis are made in China? That is disturbing. Hope there is no poison in them. Sorry, couldn't help myself.
  • HortonHorton Posts: 29,537 Administrator
My guess us that they are made in the same factorys that make high end golf and tennis gear. Don't quote me but if that is correct then it means better skis.

Good point. I know all the high tech golf clubs like Callaway and the King Cobras are incredibly outstanding. So, if skis are made in a factory similar to those, then there should be no problem.

Yep, Andy is messing around with a Senate. He has some that are 100% Carbon and they are testing them.
