What do you use to ship a slalom ski?

skinutskinut Posts: 430 Solid Baller
So I have sold my slalom ski but I don't have a box to ship it in. I have even called the local outdoor retailers to see if they have any boxes I could have, no luck. Any suggestions on what I should use?

We have a local box store (EcoBox) which carries 6"x 6" x 4ft boxes and 8" x 8" x 4ft boxes. I have bought two of the size needed and slipped one into the other like a sports tube. I typically protect the fin and pad the insides significantly. Maybe you can find a local box store?

Once you figure out the box issue and are ready to ship, go to the UPS or FedEx dispatch/service center. Don't go to The UPS Store or Office Max. Those places add a high service fee. At Office Max it was $48 at UPS $28 and Uncle Sam's snail mail was $38.

Just go down to the local shop and get one from them. They have ski boxes in the back.

UPS store or fedex store should be able to box it for you.

I never ship'em, I only receive'em :) The last "rare" and "vintage" one I bought off of eBay arrived via USPS wrapped only in bubble without damage. It cost the shipper all of about $8 from NH to PA.
Is it time to ski, yet?

USPS has always been the easiest and cheapest for international shipping.

Bubble wrap on tip and fin then cut and fit boxes with LOTS of tape to secure. I swore I'd never be without a ski shipping box but threw it out when we moved. THIS IS BAD! I'm pretty sure I won't be without one again!

I always keep the box from my most recent ski in the crawl space.

Save the box from the last one you bought and re use. I've done that a number of times.

Some packing and shipping specialists can custom make boxes. Depending where you live you could make a few calls.

I had a guy ship me a ski in 8x8x8 boxes. About 15 of them sleeved, one into the next and taped like hell. It works
