I'm not sure what it is. But, judging by the Samsonite logo, it must be a part to some luggage.

    Looks like a ventril fin.

It looks like an early wing that predates the popularity of phillips screw drivers.

Not too mention predating countersunk screws.

Have you been digging in KLP’s toy box again?

@SkiJay and @Bruce_Butterfield are headed in the right direction. What do you suppose makes this item so special?

Is it designed to mount in the existing holes along the bottom edge of the fin? The different screw placements allow it to be repositioned to various locations along that bottom edge?

Holes allow for different position on left/right side.

Also forward swept and intended for right-side up usage.

Rather than a large hole or slot for one end of the wing to move up and down in, perhaps he had a series of strategically located holes in the fin that achieved preset wing angles—no wing gauges required.

Thus must predate the adjustable fin.

Remind me of my 1989 Concept. Fixed fin, adjustable wing.

Might that be the first one ever? (Mostly a random guess.)

Winner winner, chicken dinner! @Than_Bogan hit the nail on the head. And @Bruce_Butterfield was on target too, it’s right out of the KLP archive.

Next question: What was the “device” that this wing replaced?
