Yep That looks wack. Would prefer something that taps the rubrail than gelcoat, bumpers are way better. Vertical 2x6 boards with some fender material work great too.

We tried something similar on my folks dock for a season. Hard to beat a much thicker bumper like your original ones, although we have 4 mounted.

They certainly look nice but I would be afraid of a big roller dropping the rub rail over the top of the dock on the way down. I don't like anything touching the gel coat no matter how soft it starts out. Do they make any vertical pads that can go over a 4×4 for rub rail contact only?

No good unless your lake doesnt vary in height by more than 6"

I agree with @disland and @Killer. Our man-made lake can vary by several inches through-out the year and if another boat is on the lake, this setup wouldn't work nearly as well as padded vertical posts.

Looked at their website and they come in 1 foot increments. So could mount them vertical like bumpers, which might be nice.

First question. Does anyone ever ski on your lake besides you?

Second question. Does the wind ever actually blow?

And finally how do you deal with the spray leg from having to ski so much glass?
    Ski it if you can!!!!
