Goode’s r style rear boot

mbabiashmbabiash Posts: 512 Crazy Baller
Does anyone have experience with Goode’s version of the r style rear boot?

I believe it is essentially the same as the Reflex version except the buckles which to me look superior.

Shell is a cuff less cut down Supershell, so it is not exactly the same as a reflex r-style. Plastic is softer on the supershell, my cousin skis on a cut down supershell for the past 10 years and says that he prefers it over the reflex shell.

@Stathis Ventouris just sent me these pictures of his ski with his home made Goode r-style

@skialex, I was not aware that the Goode was softer than the Reflex- is it significantly softer?
  • skialexskialex Posts: 896 Crazy Baller
@Nando I not sure if it is significantly softer, plastic is softer and easier to cut, I know that. I think @Stathis Ventouris should answer this.

Do you come out of the R Style in a fall?
  • BraceMakerBraceMaker Posts: 3,781 Mega Baller
You should. I've tried the r style the get and RTP and I've been more stuck in an RTP than any of the others. I think the Wiley's RTP foam is pretty sticky.

Yes you do come out in a fall. I have one for sale if you want it.

@skialex It is not softness that I like about the "home made" GOODE R-Style but the heel upward movement possibility that the springs provide.

@A_B never had a release problem, although I have not skied in an RTP for many years my feeling is that the release is as easy.
  • mbabiashmbabiash Posts: 512 Crazy Baller
So why on the r style did they move the top buckle down. Is it a release issue or a performance thing.
  • Stathis VentourisStathis Ventouris Posts: 102 Baller
@mbabiash I guess for safety and release reasons but I do not believe out of experience that it was necessary. In addition, I don't know whether by moving the top buckle down you give up on overall feeling and support.

My r style rear made from a Goode boot...

Btw, probably better to move or remove the top buckle or replace it with a rubber strap made from binding rubber, to insure easy release.

Also. What is the purpose of the cutout on the toe area. To get closer to front boot?

@mbabiash yes, chances are your toes are 3/4” to 1” from the end of the plastic shell anyway...

Matt, goodwill and a grinder. Rollerblade R-styles are cheap! ;) . But seriously @mbabiash the toe cutout is for the Reflex style release arms to have room

Plastic buckles are preferable than aluminum ones for release purposes and also out of experience they open up with pressure on release situations.
