Restoring a classic ski boat - Dr. Jack's 1990 Ski Brendella

edited November 2019 in Classic Threads
The Ski Brendella hadn't run in a number of years by the smell of the fuel tank. This afternoon it came back to life with a little help.

That's awesome. My ski partner and I got his 1989 Ski Brendella fired up about a week ago after a little maintenance. Then, went out and ran 2 sets each behind it.
    Sooo much fun!
Just need to raise our magnets a little so that his PerfectPass picks it up.

Seems like stringers killed a lot of Brendellas. How are the stringers?

I want to know what happened to the dusty 2000 SN that was there!

The only good brendella is a dead one!! LOL!!
I kept the transom and platform for a bar project!

Are those coaming pads in good shape? The starboard one in the pics looks good. We need both. Thanks.
The last thing we need to do is install a new poly gas tank. The aluminum one, after 30 years of some wetness trapped between the tank and the carpet it sits on has corroded and leaks. Not worth repairing.

I suspect you're looking at an old picture of the open casket wake @Zman

@Zman - FYI in case you need, Moeller should be a good source for a plastic tank. From the pics, a Malibu Response / PS 190 tank may fit in that opening. Might be an easier source option than finding a Brendella tank if they even used plastic ones.
GLS may be an option: https://www.greatlakesskipper.com/

@Mike Gile PP Classic version 6.4 came up on the screen when we powered it up for the first time. If it works, terrific, otherwise we're going to learn to "hand throttle" in preparation for the 2020 NorCal Mastercraft BoS Cash Prize event at BOS HQ in May.

@Horton did you find the swim step yet ?

@RichardDoane I have a box of PP parts I am sure we can cobble something together if the one in the boat doesn't work.

    @Jody_Seal Thanks Jody, no worries.
@DW Thanks. My ski bud found a poly tank already at Overtons that has almost identical dimensions and had a center fill spout like in the Ski Brendella. Should be installing it soon.

@RichardDoane ...not really! It did make initial float level setting a bit easier/quicker less messy (those manifolds didn’t have a wedge to level the carb) but once they’re set either way you’re good to go. Just saves having to take the bowl(s) off to adjust levels.

Super easy carb to work on, very simple. Save yourself some aggravation and buy some extra float bowl transfer tube O rings...use fuel lube or a touch of grease on them, they tear VERY easy and will whizz fuel everywhere anytime you take the bowl off if you tear them.
