Makes the conditions at the last Worlds look pretty good.

That was cool. Some of the falls remind me of college tournaments.

Amazing they could run anything on that ski tech back then!
    Stir vigorously then leave!

Thanks for posting, from what I can tell, skiing looked more fun in those days. I love the trick runs where the handle pass, toe pass and 2 ski pass are all done at once, we should bring that back.

And I just gotta have that speedometer in my boat!

At 0:35....I know the boat was smaller but were the gates and boat guides wider too? Gate seems really wide especially for how large the buoys were. Would that course have been prior to the conversion to the metric course?

Very cool seeing the jump as part of the trick runs. Also cool to see how they timed trick runs with the red flag and the old way of measuring jump.

That's some crazy jumping action. Can't imagine how many butt-check enemas there were back in those days. Yeowch!

And trick-skiing back then looks WAY more interesting to watch than the modern event.
boats are like girlfriends you love them however there is another one around the corner - bananaron, July 21, 2020

Fast forward to 1983. Some serious 39.5 off action

One thing you can 100% be sure of back then... they were coming out of their bindings!
  • pregompregom Posts: 282 Baller
Simply amazing what they could do back then! Wood skis, floppy bindings, skimpy (styrofoam?) vests, no helmets... and at 5:50 you can see the speedometer at 36mph, all with manual speed control.

Check out these World Championships in Italy in 1977. Compare the number of spectators then to the most recent worlds...
