Trick hard shell stiffness

HortonHorton Posts: 29,209 Administrator
I asked this question in another thread but it didn't get a whole lot of play so I'm asking again.... my current trick hard shell cuff moves forwards and backwards quite freely. Do any of you trickers have a strong opinion about how much resistance there should be on your ankle cuff?

    Black cuff reflex ?

I prefer softer for hands, stiffer for toes. I've seen many use soft for toes as well. Personal preference really whichever works better.

My 2 cents as a low point tricker.
I use black Reflex and find it to soft.
Would like to find something a bit stiffer.

I'm using The Syndicate shell or a white cuff Reflex. Both are very loose in forward movement.

@Martin any suggestions on stiffening up the shell? I thought about changing liners but that seems like a crapshoot.

You can find or make a plastic tongue and buckle it into the boot under all three buckles to stiffen up the boot. Works for slalom as well.

@horton liners can make a huge difference. Thivk intuition liner. Adding 4th buckle makes a big difference too. I could never trick in reflex for that reason. Preferred FM for tricks which is much stiffer. Adding a plastic tongue should help too like @lpskier says.

@Martin assume you’re running a wrap style liner with 2 cuff buckles? Or 3 shell 1 cuff?

@brucemaker wrap liner with 2 cuff buckles
  • BraceMakerBraceMaker Posts: 4,373 Mega Baller
@Martin thought so huge difference between these two FM shells and big difference between these two wrap liners.

Yellow shell cuff and shell cut low front tabs cut back and lowered rear V notch hole bigger and lower. Cuff pinned forwards. Single buckle. Black shell twin straps V notch full front tabs full coverage dual buckle full cuff. The Denali liner is much firmer than the protour liner and IMO forms better.
