Hi guys, for my school project im designing a ski boat water pump. If you were designing one, what would you change from what is already on the market today?

#1 request from me would be a flow sensor so you'd know if flow became obstructed and/or vane-loss caused insufficient efficiency. Run-dry would be nice too. Not that impellers are hard to change on a direct drive, but an easier swappable design, particularly for Vdrives, would be nice.

It tends to be a higher maintenance item, impeller failure is fairly common. Improving reliability, material improvement and/or serviceability would be a good focus. Have fun.

@harrison_343 I assume you're talking about the impeller?

Yes - as @2Valve asked. Are you talking about the impeller or the water pump, as two entirely different items . ??

I would like to see one where you don't have to change out an impeller.

How about making the face of the RWP as you look at mounted from clear plexiglass so you can visually inspect the state of the impeller without removing it.
