Oh man! That is sad. Makes me feel guilty for complaining about the crappy conditions we’ve had so far this year. At least our lake is full.

Are you aware of the reasoning behind this @Horton ?

This one is about 35 minutes up from me just south of Chico Ca. Never took off. They tried to sell a few lots and no one bought. Last i heard its a rice field.

You can also add the lakes in Davis, Middletown and Red Bluff as dried up ski lakes.

this is not a good trend. The lake I posted is in central California. I don't know anything about it.

Yea The lake I posted about the price tag was way off I think. It was over 12 years ago and they were asking 250,000 for the lot with no power, no well, no septic. It’s also pretty far away from any job market. At the time it would’ve been an hour and a half one way commute for me.

Lake posted @horton is in Madera, CA. about an hour from Yosemite. Sold some time ago and has been dry since; probably 8-10 years ago. Lake was unprotected from wind and had a E-W setting which was terrible for sun in the AM and PM; but it was fun to ski and the original owners were great.

@dbressel do you know why it's dry? Availability of water, new owners not skiers so don't pay to pump, ...?

I remember that place on the market like 2012-2014 time frame I think. Had a sweet house with a 6 or 8 car garage. But wasn't it two owners, divided across the middle of the lake? One owned one end of the lake. The other owned the opposite end of the lake. Probably made for an interesting sharing arrangement.

In FL. I skied with the guy that built it and was the single owner. Fun years skiing there. Then the market crashed/housing bubble and he walked away. Sad as it sat unsold and unused for so long, that vines were growing up the walls of the mansion. To this day I believe it goes unused. 20’ deep and crystal clear water. 😕

@ski6jones not specifically; but water in the Valley is always an issue.

How many 10's of 1000's of $ a year to pump it full?
  • BraceMakerBraceMaker Posts: 5,338 Mega Baller
@LoopSki atleast if it was a rice field you could ski it a few weeks a year.

@LoopSki I am one of the 2 owners of the Ski Lake in Middletown and it is not and has never been dry. Not sure where you got that information....

Well, from a trend perspective, I can tell you that the lots here in Utah have recently appreciated at ridiculous levels. So at least the trend isn't completely a nationwide thing.

@Mike Gile I had heard of a lake that was built quite awhile ago but didn't go through the proper permit process and so it was killed - is this the same lake?
