the end of season blues

Tomorrow the University of Iowa waterski team is winterizing our boats and taking our course out. Talk about depression, the single worst part about living in the norther midwest is the knowlege that winter will come and with it bring ice. I guess my lifting season has officially started since my ski season has come to an end as of tomorrow. I think everyone back in Minnesota will agree with me that this off season can't go fast enough.

I agree with young Mr. Razor! However, I did manage to ski nine 32s this morning in 33 degree temps, then skied four 32s, six 35s and two more 32s tonight in 52 degree temps. Hopefully I can stretch it out just a little longer, but I'm running out of daylight.

@razorross3, time to start putting up the big weight...this is the season your bench should crack 400. I'm done skiing, gym planned Friday/Sat/Sun. Bummed about the end of skiing, bummed about how sore I will be come Monday. Bring spring.

The northern states suck as well as Utah in regards to winters. The problem we are having is the shallow water. Last week I literally was starting in 18 inches of water. And being 6 foot 7, that is just shallow. Scot and I keep looking at lake levels daily praying that it goes up even 6 inches before it freezes over.
    I ski, therefore I am

I'm bummed too. I think I may have to use a wetsuit after this weekend .: (

Well, it's going to suck not skiing until march but I'm not going to put off lifting until February, I'd just sit around here getting fat if I did.

Course is coming out of the water this weekend at the club in Toronto. Sad. So I sprang into action and booked 3 days with T-Gas in one month for the wife and I. Woohoo. (That plus a week at McGinnis around New Years).

For Canadian skiers, desperate times equals desperate measures.

Time to get out the DVD collection and watch ski porn (that's watching great skiing, for those of you who aren't familiar with the term) all winter.

I'm pulling the course this Sunday, but I don't think I'll have anyone to ski with until then. The weather is supposed to be gorgeous too. That really makes me blue!

My freezer in my rental house froze over last week.

90 degrees in Houston today=80 degree water temp. Winter still a ways away. Think I'll go grab a set at lunch. :)

@jody seal - was wondering what the temps were like and if skiing was still good in Dec. Planning on being in Orlando for a week before Christmas.

We are up in the Panhandle of Florida on the gulf coast, on average we are 7 degrees cooler then O-town in the winter months. It has snowed in the Panhandle before!

@OB - nah, was just wondering if any skiing in late December got done down in Florida. Would like to get some skiing in while I'm down there with my family. I'm assuming it'll be at least a heater shirt. But compared to what it is right now (~cold Illinois) I'll take that!

@6balls I assume you mean 400 oz? I can probably work my way up to that...

@than_bogan, Young Mitch will be gunning for 400 lbs on the bench. He's got a real chance to set family records on the bench and on the short-line someday if he keeps after it year after year...though the existing marks are fairly high :)

Now really got the end of season blues...slurped anti-freeze into the Nautique today. Also went to the gym today and found out how weak I am. At least the Hawkeyes beat Sparty.

@6balls @razorross3 - when did Iowa move the course from up by the Marina to down by the bridge?
  • A_BA_B Posts: 4,355 Mega Baller
Usually ends up that the lake is glass right after the buoys get pulled. Same thing today, but 15 minutes after the boat was in the garage, it started raining, so I felt much better!

@bracemaker, will let @razorross3 fill u in on the current situation. I graduated undergrad '95 n med school '99. Our course was upstream of mid-river marina. It was not navigable much further up-stream. We ran a '82 MC stars and stripes w/over 2K hours, hand timed and no magnets. How do you know details about the IA ski team?

@BraceMaker -- they just put it up north of the bridge this year. Had trouble with it down by the marina. Much less traffic up river.

Still rocking in Tennessee. Lake People are alive and well.
Am I a jumper that wants to be a slalom skier? Or a slalom skier that wants to be a jumper?

Skiing is still great in BC Canada. Skied last night, calm water on a pubic lake. The air and water temp was comfortable in a shorty.First rain we have had since July here.

@6balls what type of Doc are you?

    Matt Zito...Detroit Mi
  • 6balls6balls Posts: 5,874 Mega Baller
@mzito, I'm a family doc in a small town but part of a larger doc owned multi-specialty group w/100 docs and 50 mid-level providers spread over 11 counties. I work clinical 2/3rd time and 1/3rd administrative as medical director for the system. Working on my MBA, will be done end of next summer...not sure where that will lead.

    @bigtallweed,
Good to here some other BCers are still at it! The rain showed up for us a couple of days ago on the island, but I haven't had to break out the wetsuit yet!
Hoping to get a few more sets before hanging it up for the season.
