    I just don't get it guys! Yaah, it looks fun and cool but, seriously, where is the thrill. I need buoys! This to me is a friggin driving range! "Wow, you hit that ball awesome! Look at how far it went....down the driving range fairway." Unless you are hitting to a green protected by a bunker on the left and water on the right, with 50 bucks riding on whether you get it close enough to two-putt, I see no thrill!!! My name is Douglas Brady and I am a buoyaholic.
    I ski, therefore I am

    @Brady,
    I'm w u! I'd rather be in the buoys. But believe it or not, these boards are alot of fun and a great work out! Surfing on one looks fun too!

    Does look like fun !!!

    I am glad to see they are out on the ocean and not on our lakes behind a 25' Wakeboard Boat..............I am all for this!!!
    Special Thanks to Performance Ski and Surf and the Denali Adam's !!!

    No. They should be on lakes. Not at surf spots.

    @jimbrake - but they should not be behind boats correct? Or why bother with a paddle?
  • jimbrakejimbrake Posts: 1,326 Mega Baller
    Well, have you ever seen a longboard skateboarder with a "street paddle"? What absolute douchebaggery. Paddle is unnecessary, yet there it is because for some reason they think it's cool. So I'm sure there is some dips--t trying to be all "core" and impress the chicks by supping behind a boat somewhere. I guarantee it.

    The thing I like about the paddle out in the surf is that "it seems" that MAYBE I could actually catch a wave and be able to ride that wave standing up instead of falling off the board like a total D-Bag!

    That, right there, is the basis of SUP popularity. Which is more difficult? Paddling in on your own power on a performance short board, then popping up to your feet in position to do something on the wave OR standing on top of a 12-foot long, 4-inch thick, 2-foot wide aircraft carrier and paddling in way, way outside while the wave is just starting to stand up? Kinda like, what is easier? Getting up on a high performance slalom and running the course or getting up on a wakeboard and jumping the wake? A large percentage will opt for the easier activity then when the sport blows up, figure out a way to say that it's cool.

    That's funny! I really wanna be cool, but haven't had enuff time to master the standing up process. I've never tried to paddle in so don't have a clue. I can see where the surfers could really hate those guysif it truly is easier to catch the wave

    They only hate when SUPs start to invade spots w established pecking orders and start hogging waves. Guys that started as surfers then switch to SUP generally know whats up and go elsewhere or take their proper spot. Problem is most never surfed first.

    Surfers right of way is 'first on the wave', or 'closest to where it is breaking', so traditional surfers hate the paddle guys because they can catch the waves further outside and snake the wave. They also paddle out faster and catch more waves as a result.
    Surfers have traditionally had the same hate on for kayak surfers for the same reason.

    stronger every day! I should be good to go by around the end of June...although I might have to wait til Michigan. My niece is getting married on 6/29. She won't change the date for me...she's selfish!

    ps: Nice gig in Hawaii...how'd you swing that? and call it work?

    can't believe someone would get married on that weekend and not even consult you on your schedule.....Hawaii was incredible, nearly didn't come home...if I would of ran as many buoys as I drank pina coladas, i would of set a world record
